Phobias

Many of us carry fears and phobias such as a fear of mice, spiders, driving, interviews, socialising and much more.  Fears and phobias are very common, affecting adults and children of all ages. They range from a slight fear about something to an extreme phobia, affecting our lives and holding us back from living the life we dream of.  Hypnotherapy is the perfect way to let go of fears and phobias.


~ Where do these fears and phobias come from?  We can learn them in our younger years from the people we live with, such as our parents or friends or even from watching a scary film.  Just spend a few moments to think about the number of “scary” things children are exposed too? For example, the use of spiders in films and books. These can be portrayed as frightening and something to avoid. But in reality, most spiders are completely harmless.  In other words, there is an “implanted” idea in our minds that spiders are very dangerous and should be avoided.  Thus creating a potential phobia of spiders.


~ Why does this happen?  Fundamentally because our subconscious minds are protecting us from possible extreme danger.  The subconscious mind doesn’t know the difference between what is real and what is imagined. Therefore, we have to be careful as to what we tell ourselves to be true, as fears can easily escalate out of our control. 


Everything is stored in our subconscious minds from the things we have learned, our beliefs, our experiences, our conditioning and much more.  So, when we are subjected to possible danger, our subconscious minds will recall that memory associated with an event and give us more of that emotional fear (such as anxiety), in order to protect us.  In other words, the subconscious mind thinks it is doing the right thing.  And in some cases of course, this is very helpful because in a real dangerous situation, this could save our lives.  But on the other hand, if a fear is holding you back from doing something that you want to do. For example, holding a spider; confidently attending an important interview or learning to drive; then the subconscious mind needs help to be reprogrammed.  This is where Hypnotherapy can be very helpful in showing you ways how to powerfully overcome that fear or phobia. This in turn freeing you from a phobia enabling you to be happy and get on with your life.
